Powassan; Timmins make move up in CJHL rankings

SUDBURY – Two of the hottest clubs in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League are making a move up in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Top 20 rankings.

The latest edition of the listings released Monday sees the red-hot Powassan Voodoos sliding up to No. 7 overall in the 132-team CJHL while the Timmins Rock were tabbed 12th nationally.

Powassan is riding an impressive 13-game winning streak, which they’ll put on the line Monday evening, as they host the French River Rapids at 7:30 p.m. at the Sportsplex.

The Voodoos lead the overall NOJHL standings with a league-best 20-3-1-0 record.

Timmins meanwhile has moved to second overall in terms of winning percentage at .739 along with a 17-6-0-0 mark in league play heading into a home game Wednesday vs. 16-5-4-1 Cochrane.

Still No. 1 in the 132-team CJHL is College Français de Longueuil remains the No. 1 team in the CJHL for yet another week.

There was also no change in second and third in the listings as the Georgetown Raiders (OJHL) and Steinbach Pistons (MJHL) maintain their place in the top three.
