Begin named league’s third star

The Abitibi Eskimos may have dropped all three games on last weekend’s road trip, but one star player caught the eye of NOJHL officials.

Eskis forward Marc-Alain Begin was named the league’s third star of the week.

Posting a statistic that is sure to catch your eye, Begin was involved, either as the goal scorer or with an assist, in eight of the nine tallies that the Eskis recorded last week. He finished a four-game stretch with four goals and four assists, clearly the “go to guy” in Iroquois Falls.

In fact, the 20-year-old native of Hearst is going to need some help in terms of secondary scoring if the Eskimos are about to turn around an early season skid that has seen the team drop four of their opening six encounters.

Drew MacMillan of the Sudbury Kal Tire Cubs was named the league’ first start. He scored 11 points in three games.

Sudbury’s Darcy Haines was the second star, scoring eight goals and two assists.

Eskis fans have an opportunity to see all three of the NOJHL’s stars of the week in action on Saturday night, as Abitibi hosts Sudbury.

Game time at the Jus Jordan Arena is 7:30 p.m.

Fans attending the game will receive a free 2011-2012 schedule fridge magnet (while supplies last).
