COLLINGWOOD, Ont. – The Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL) stormed back from a three-goal deficit in the final session and went to defeat the Timmins Rock 5-4, in a shootout, Monday evening in Day 1 play at the Cottage Cup preseason tournament at Eddie Bush Arena.
The 10-team event, with all the clubs playing two, 20-minute-period contests, saw Carleton Place connect quickly, on a William Soloway marker a minute and a half into the match-up.
Countering in rapid succession, Timmins went to work and saw Josh Russell credited with a power play goal, moments later.
The Rock then took the lead at 7:23 compliments of Nolan Ring.
Special teams helped the reigning NOJHL title holders take a 3-1 lead into the intermission when Liam Wells notched his first in exhibition play.
Moving to the final stanza, the Rock added to their cushion with a third extra-man effort was went in off a goal-mouth scramble, that was awarded to Harry Clark.
Pulling closer, the Canadians’ Cole Matthews converted with 11:38 to play.
Not done there, the Central Canada Hockey League club got to within one four minutes later when Thomas Enrietto found himself free to the left of the net and stuffed one by an outstretched Boivin.
Continuing to press, Carleton Place tied it a couple of shifts later as Dylan Pollock slammed in the equalizer.
Heading straight to extra shots, after the end of regulation, Soloway supplied the lone marker there to cap off the Canadians come from behind win.
Timmins returns to action twice in Collingwood Tuesday as they meet the Toronto Jr. Canadiens (OJHL) at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) in a 6:30 p.m. start.
