Gold Miners prepare for Eskis

KIRKLAND LAKE - It will be a battle of two of the NOJHL’s two biggest rivals Friday as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners take on the Abitibi Eskimos at The Joe in the first of a home-and-home series.

Miners’ Head Coach Marc Lafleur says his players will definitely have to be on their toes.

“Both teams will be motivated, we are rivals. It doesn’t matter where we are in the standings all the games have been extremely close.”

Currently the Eskis sit in fifth place, twelve points behind the Miners but it should be pointed out that Abitibi has five games in hand so the calculations would say the gap between the teams is much closer than one might think.

According to Coach Lafleur the team has had some good practices and have been “tweeking” some of their systems. He added they have also been doing some more off-ice conditioning so they maybe stronger come the third periods,

Friday’s game against Abitibi is slated for 7:30 at The Joe. Saturday’s night’s return game in Iroquois Falls is slated for 7:30 at the Jus Jordan arena.
