NOJHL names its BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forwards Callum McAuley (Soo Thunderbirds) and Alex Povorozniouk (Soo Eagles), along with goaltender Dryden Riley (Timmin Rock), have been named its BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 13.

Callum McAuley, (F) Soo Thunderbirds: Scoring and collecting assists in both of the Thunderbirds two victories last week, the 18-year-old Timmins product picked up six points in total helping his side return to the win column.

McAuley began by tallying twice and helping setting up a couple more in a triumph over Kirkland Lake, then notched an impressive marker, to go with a helper, in a narrow result over French River.

Averaging a point-per-game so far in his NOJHL career, McAuley has accumulated 43 through his first 43 league outings on 23 goals and 20 assists.

Alex Povorozniouk, (F) Soo Eagles: A key play-maker in each of the Eagles two home ice results in the time frame, Povorozniouk’s efforts saw him jump into the team scoring lead.

Hailing from McHenry, Illinois, the playmaking forward dished out five assists along the way and also scored one in decisions over the Rapids and Gold Miners.

Etching his name on the game sheet in seven of nine games to date, Povorozniouk has now jumped into the Top 10 in NOJHL scoring with his 14 total points.

Dryden Riley, (G) Timmins Rock: Having just turned 17 last week, Riley was flawless in his lone start for Timmins, in being credited with a 27-save shutout Sunday afternoon versus Iroquois Falls.

The netminder from Belleville, Ont., improved his record to 5-2-0-0 on the season, while lowering his goals-against average to 1.87 and raising his save percentage to .933.

Among the dozen goalkeepers who have seen 300, or more, minutes of game action in league play so far on the campaign, Riley’s statistics see him sit first in GAA and second in SV%.
