NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that the forward trio of Michael Chaffay (Soo Thunderbirds), Harry Clark (Timmins Rock) and Alex Freund (Soo Eagles) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending April 10.

MICHAEL CHAFFAY, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Contributing in each of the Thunderbirds’ first three playoff wins, Chaffay tallied twice and doled out three assists, helping his hometown Sault Ste. Marie side move to within a win of advancing to the NOJHL West Final.

Two of the helpers provided by the 19-year-old for the Thunderbirds were on game-winners.

His five points lead the Soo in playoff production to date.

Chaffay is coming off a campaign where he set personal single-season bests in goals, assists and points with 20, 13 and 33 respectively, in 38 contests played.

HARRY CLARK, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – Helping pace the Rock offensively so far in their series against French River, the 18-year-old Clark has a goal and four assists to his credit in his first three postseason contests.

He began by doling out a pair of helpers, featuring one on the game-winner, in the opener versus the Rapids.

The Timmins product added another assist in the Game 2 triumph while Sunday night he converted with a nifty move on a breakaway and was part of another marker in a late Rock victory.

His total numbers tie him for the NOJHL lead in playoff scoring.

ALEX FREUND, (F) SOO EAGLES – Making the most of his efforts, Freund contributed mightily for the Eagles, helped them take the first two match-ups against Greater Sudbury.

In Game 1, the 18-year-old from Neenah, Wis., notched the decider in overtime Friday, in his league playoff debut.

Then in Game 2, Freund assisted on the night’s initial tally, then scored once more as the Eagles went up 2-0 on the Cubs.

Joining the Eagles line-up back in March, he has already matched his point total from the dozen regular season contests he appeared in.
