SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that the forward trio of Mason Walker (Greater Sudbury Cubs); Kaeden McArthur (Timmins Rock) and Maxx Hamelin (Timmins Rock) have been named the Rogers 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending April 5.
Mason Walker, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs – Walker amassed nine points in the Cubs’ two wins over the Soo Eagles to begin their semifinal series.
The 17-year-old Sudbury product began by dishing out three assists in the opener, then scored five times, and helped set-up another in Game 2.
His five goals were the most in a NOJHL playoff game since March 15, 2015, when Owen Headrick notched four for the Soo Thunderbirds in a triumph against Blind River.
With points in all six postseason contests for his side, Walker sits fourth in league playoff scoring with 18, including seven tallies.
Kaeden McArthur, (F) Timmins Rock – A big week for the veteran Rock forward saw him score in all three victories for his team, with a trio of multi-point triumphs.
The 20-year-old McArthur began with the game-winner, and an assist, in Timmins’ Game 7 decision over the Soo Thunderbirds, then banged in four more markers, featuring another decider, and added a helper, to put them up 2-0 on the Hearst Lumberjacks, with the next two tilts at home.
With points in five straight and eight of nine so far in the postseason for his hometown side, McArthur sits seconds in NOJHL playoff numbers at 19, that includes a league-high nine goals.
Maxx Hamelin, (F) Timmins Rock – Hamelin provided three multi-point performances in the Rock’s trio of triumphs during the time frame.
The 18-year-old from Winnipeg, Man., started by setting up three markers, including one on the decider, to close out the series with the Thunderbirds, then had a game-winner, and doled out four assists, as Timmins took the first two in Hearst.
An alumnus of the Winnipeg Bruins AAA minor hockey system, Hamelin currently leads the NOJHL playoff scoring race with 20 points on seven goals and 13 assists.
