NOJHL names its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forwards Daks Klinkhammer (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and Maxx Hamelin (Timmins Rock), along with goaltender Frédéric Cousineau (Timmins Rock), have been named the Rogers 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending April 12.

Daks Klinkhammer, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs – The Cubs’ captain supplied back-to-back three-point efforts to help send his side to a sweep of the Soo Eagles and advance to the league final.

The 20-year-old Klinkhammer, who hails from Ajax, Ont., began by scoring twice and assisting on the decider in Game 3 at Sault Ste. Marie, then followed that up with another marker and a pair of helpers, including one on the series winner in overtime in Game 4 in the Soo.

Klinkhammer, who is an alumnus of the Ajax-Pickering Raiders AAA system, sits tied for fifth in NOJHL playoff scoring with 15 points in eight postseason outings with eight tallies and seven assists.

Maxx Hamelin, (F) Timmins Rock – Hamelin, the league’s leading point-getter in the playoffs, collected four in two match-ups as Timmins finished off Hearst to punch their ticket to the Copeland Cup – McNamara Trophy Final.

With nine multi-point outings so far in the playoffs, including five in a row, the 18-year-old from Winnipeg, Man., had a goal and set-up three, during the time frame, that was highlighted with assists on both game-winners as the Rock took down the Lumberjacks.

Coming out of the AAA Winnipeg Bruins minor hockey program, Hamelin tops all NOJHL skaters in offensive production on a league-best 24 points, including 16 helpers. He’s also on a seven-game point streak and has only been held off the game sheet once in his 11 playoff appearances.

Frédéric Cousineau, (G) Timmins Rock – Backstopping the Rock to their series triumph versus the Lumberjacks, Cousineau won twice last week to extend his NOJHL-lead in postseason victories to eight.

Cousineau, who is from from Malartic, Que., and is in his final season of Jr. A hockey, had a league-best 2.00 goals-against average for the period and posted a save percentage of .925 to wrap things up with Hearst.

Manning the nets with the Amos Foresters AAA organization in Quebec in his minor hockey days, Cousineau’s .927 save mark is currently tops in the NOJHL playoffs while holding down second spot in GAA at 2.26.
