Since he took over the helm of the squad, the Rock have accumulated a regular-season won-loss record of 147-45-10-4, including Friday’s 5-2 home-ice triumph over the Espanola Paper Kings and Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Storm in Iroquois Falls.
So, it should come as no surprise the Rock announced this week a new three-year to have him remain with the franchise for the next three seasons — through the end of the 2027-28 campaign.
“I am super happy, I love working for the organization,” Perry said, following Friday night’s victory. “I am proud to be from Timmins and proud to represent Timmins hockey. It has been a hell of a ride to this point and I am excited to get to do it again for three more seasons.”
While Perry led the Rock to an NOJHL championship during the 2023 playoffs and a berth in the Centennial Cup Championship, his goal is to help the Rock capture that title not just prove them are good enough to play in the tournament.
“That’s the ultimate goal, every year,” he said.
Perry credits a number of things for the success the organization has enjoyed in recent years.
“We have done a good job bringing in the right people,” he said. “It’s not always about the talent on the ice. You have to have good people in the locker room, as well, and we try to do that first and foremost.
“Character is not an easy thing to recruit but everybody can see the on-ice play. You want to know about them as people, you want to know about their families. Good people do good things and that’s kind of been our moto here.
“On the coaching side of it, you just care about them. It may sound simple, but you need to really care about your players. In turn, they will give you everything they have.
“Aside from the Xs and Os, we play the way we play and it’s brought us a lot of success.”
Perry’s transition from coach of the GNU18L’s Timmins Majors to coach and general manager of the Rock has been seamless and the NOJHL squad appreciates how he has helped to foster a winning culture both on and off the ice.
He took over the reins of the Rock at the start of the 2021-22 regular season and in addition to guiding the team to a 147-45-10-4 regular-season record, his teams have gone 26-11 during three successful playoff runs.
His leadership, player development and commitment to excellence have solidified his role as a key figure in the organization’s continued growth.
“We are thrilled to have Brandon remain as our coach and general manager,” said Rock President Ted Gooch. “His dedication to our program and his ability to get the best out of our players has been instrumental to our success. We believe he is the right leader to guide us toward even greater accomplishments.”
Since taking over as coach and GM, Perry has consistently pushed the team to perform at a high level, emphasizing hard work, discipline and teamwork.
Gooch echoed his confidence in Perry’s leadership, adding, “Brandon has proven time and time again that he is not just a great coach, but also a tremendous ambassador for our organization. His commitment to player development and his ability to inspire our team have been key to our success. We are excited to see where he takes this group in the future.”
With Perry’s extension, the Timmins Rock are well-positioned to remain a competitive force in the league as they aim for another championship run.
