Shankar shines in OT as Rock edge Eskis
TIMMINS, Ont. – After helping set-up the tying goal late in regulation, Timmins Rock forward Jacob Shankar supplied the game-winner in overtime to lift his side to a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.
Each side would score once in the first period with Stewart Parnell connecting for the Rock early while Eskis’ affiliate player Sam Bourdages notched the equalizer with 16 seconds left in the frame while also registering his first NOJHL goal.
Up a man past the midway mark of the middle stanza, Ryan Gruszka picked up his 14th of the season for Iroquois Falls.
They then went up 3-1 early in the third as Bourdages added his second league marker 61seconds in during a power play.
Timmins started their rally with 11:52 left in regulation with Nicholas Hautanen pulling the home side to within one.
The Rock then forced extra time at 17:52 with Shankar and Parnell combining to assist on Patrick Gazich’s tying tally.
Then midway through the first OT, Shankar won it for Timmins as they completed their rally in dramatic fashion.
Al Rogers made 30 stops to pick up the win for Timmins while Trevor Hawkes faced 26 shots in defeat for the Eskis, who did earn a point in the setback.
