FRENCH RIVER – A seven-goal second period barrage was more than enough to send the Timmins Rock past the French River Rapids 9-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Noelville Arena.

Reaching the 30-goal plateau for the first time in his NOJHL career, Timmins’ Kaeden McArthur opened the scoring three and a half minutes into the contest as he was gifted with a turnover that allowed him to slide a backhand through French River netminder Matis Bureau-Morel.

Another from McArthur midway through the opening frame saw a Ryan Power attempt hit off his body and drop into the net.

Still 2-0 Rock in the middle session, they added another early thanks to Ashton Beriana, who took a cross-ice feed from Evan Katic and wired it upstairs on Bureau-Morel.

The visitors then went ahead by four at 5:49 when Diego Da Silva put a snapped one in from the right side.

Da Silva then led a rush into the Rapids’ zone and pumped one past Ethan Madden who had entered in relief after his earlier marker.

Timmins kept coming and went up by six as Beriana tipped in a Ben Climenhaga shot from the left point.

They then blew it open late in the second as Braedyn Cyr, followed by markers from Thomas Beard and Beriana, in quick succession, to give him a hat trick.

French River eventually dashed the shutout bid of Virgil Sausset-Plateaux deep in the third, on a five-on-three, as Jonah Gareau cranked in a one-timer from the left circle to wrap up the night’s scoring.
