TIMMINS, Ont. – Tyler Masternak turned aside all 25 shots he faced to record his 11th career Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout in backstopping the Timmins Rock to a 5-0 triumph over the Blind River Beavers Sunday afternoon with an impressive 1,138 fans on hand at McIntyre Arena.
The Rock gained the edge in the first period getting goals from Karter Renouf and David Laroche to go up 2-0 into the opening intermission.
Timmins kept going in the middle session and tacked on a man advantage effort off the stick of Laroche, a shorthanded marker courtesy of Derek Sequin along with another power play marker, that was supplied by Riley Robitaille to extend the home side’s lead to five after 40 minutes.
Masternak did the rest, making 13 saves in the third alone to post his third shutout of the season, which ties him for the NOJHL lead with teammate Vance Meyer.
Owen Shier and Josh Dickson both dished out two assists apiece to aid the Rock offensive cause.
Blind River starter Jackson Hjelle faced 34 attempts in defeat as the Beavers were held off the score sheet for the first time this season and since December 6, 2018.
With the outcome, Timmins improves to 18-3-1-1 on the year while Blind River slips to 17-6-1-2 overall.
