POWASSAN, Ont. – The surging Powassan Voodoos skated to their sixth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory in a row Friday as they came back with another strong final frame to defeat the Timmins Rock 3-1 at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Timmins tallied first in this one as Owen Shier picked up his second of the season nearly six minutes into the contest.
Neither side would connect in a scoreless middle stanza as the Rock carried their one-goal cushion into the third.
In the final frame, as was the case Thursday when the Voodoos trailed by one entering the last stanza, they came back with a trio of unanswered tallies to keep their winning streak intact.
Dryden Rivet drew Powassan level 5:42 into the third to knot the affair at 1-1.
It stayed tied deep into regulation when Henry Scott supplied the eventual game-winner with 3:01 to go.
Rico Rossi then secured the decision with an empty netter in the final minute as he scored for a second straight outing and extended a point streak to five.
Powassan affiliate Sam Garagan had two assists in the home side’s triumph.
Christian Cicigoi made 19 stops to win his fifth straight start for the Voodoos while Tyler Masternak faced 29 attempts in defeat for Timmins.
