POWASSAN – The Timmins Rock peppered Voodoos goalie Garrett Forrest with 52 shots but dropped a 5-1 decision in the first game of a two-game road trip at the Sportsplex Friday night.

Michael Silveri’s fifth goal of the season staked the home side to a 1-0 lead in the first period.

Tyler Peters’ 17th goal of the season and Jake Staples’ 14thincreased the Voodoos advantage to 3-0 through 40 minutes of play.

Peters’ second goal of the game, and 18th of the season, put the Voodoos up by four goals early in the third period.

The Rock finally got one past Forrest 4:26 into the final frame as he scored his 11th goal of the season on the power play.

That’s the way the score remained until the Rock pulled goalie Matthew Nixon in favour of an extra attacker.

The move backfired, however, as Daniel Walker scored his third goal of the season into the empty Rock net to make the final 5-1.

Tyler Planetta, of the Rock, and Aaron Dart, of the Voodoos, were ejected from the game after getting five-minute majors for fighting and game misconducts early in the third period.

Forrest made 51 saves to record the victory for the Voodoos, while Nixon turned aside 33 shots and was tagged with the loss for the Rock.
