TRENTON, Ont. – Getting three goals from Alexandre Lamarre helped send LHJAAAQ St-Louis by NOJHL East 4-1 Tuesday morning to commence Day 2 competition at the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Trenton, Ont.
Featuring 10 all-star squads from the five eastern-based members of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) taking part in a two-period, per-game format, the Quebec contingent opened the scoring just over eight minutes into the contest.
The play saw Lamarre hit the ice on a line change, then wheel into NOJHL territory with speed and while driving to the net took his chance across the top of the crease, where he slammed it by goaltender Daniel Dirracolo (Powassan Voodoos), with a sharp low shot.
Answering back midway through the frame, Mathieu Comeau (Hearst Lumberjacks) tied it as he scooped up a loose puck off a Tyler Patterson (Hearst Lumberjacks) chance and whipped it past a downed Alexandre Lauzier in the St-Lous net.
Heading to the final stanza, LHJAAAQ St-Louis needed just 23 seconds to go back in front as they won a race on a dump in and worked it in front to Vincent Gauthier, who promptly buried his opportunity.
Adding some insurance with four minutes to play, Lamarre notched his second as he drove to the slot from the side boards and wired one over the glove of Dirracolo.
Lamarre then completed his hat trick with a late empty netter to cap off the result.
Game star accolades went to Lamarre and Comeau for their respective sides.
NOJHL East (0-1-1) is back at it this afternoon as they take on Maritime Hockey League South at 3:40 p.m., in Trenton and on FLOHockey.tv.
