POWASSAN, Ont. – Tyler Masternak turned aside all 26 shots he faced to post his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading sixth shutout of the season as the Timmins Rock blanked the Powassan Voodoos 3-0 Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
In blanking the Voodoos, Masternak has now established a NOJHL record for shutouts in a single season with still over half the 2018-19 campaign to play.
The visiting Rock got the early jump on Powassan as A.J. Campbell collected his fourth of the campaign at 2:23 of the first period, which turned out to be the game-winner.
Timmins then doubled their lead with the lone marker of the middle stanza that saw defenceman Luka Bolduc convert on a man advantage opportunity at 11:55 to make it 2-0 after two.
It was more Rock in the third as they extended their lead at 5:22 with another D-man in Josh Anderson beating Powassan netminder Joe Vrbetic for his fourth of the season to round out the scoring.
Joe Vrbetic faced 35 shots in defeat for Powassan who were blanked on home ice for the first time since September 12, 2014 when they fell 5-0 to the Cochrane Crunch.
