NOJHL announces 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey announced Monday Kirkland Lake Gold Miners defenceman Jeremy Picard-Fiset along with forwards Brenden Locke of the Abitibi Eskimos and Joey Miller of the Soo Thunderbirds have been named the “3 Stars” of the week for the period ending Dec. 1.

JEREMY PICARD-FISET, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – In his club’s lone game of the week played Friday the 19-year-old Barraute, Que., product scored once and dished out three assists, including setting up the game-winner, as Kirkland Lake defeated Sudbury 7-5.

On the season the Gold Miners’ blueliner leads all NOJHL defencemen in both assists and total points with 20 and 24 respectively in just 23 games.

Also of note, in the 15 contests that Picard-Fiset has registered at least one point, Kirkland Lake has an impressive 14-0-1-0 record.

BRENDEN LOCKE, (F) ABITIBI ESKIMOS – Saturday night in Iroquois Falls Locke fired his first career NOJHL hat-trick while also registering a personal-best three points to help lead Abitibi past Sudbury 7-2.

The 16-year-old rookie forward, who is skating for his hometown Eskimos side, has had a solid first season in the league picking up 21 points in 26 total games.

Locke, who has a modest three-game point streak on the go, presently sits fourth in offensive production with Abitibi and is currently the highest point producing 1997-born player in the NOJHL.

JOEY MILLER, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – In two games this past week the 18-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., had a pair of points in each of them helping the Thunderbirds maintain their place atop the league standings.

Miller began by tallying twice in a 6-1 victory over Blind River Thursday and followed that up by doling out two assists in a 4-2 triumph at Elliot Lake Saturday.

On the season the T-Birds forward has points in four consecutive games as well as 25 in total on the campaign, which ties him for 15th in NOJHL scoring.
