TIMMINS – I am writing this to express my sincere thanks to the two Timmins Rock hockey players (identified by Rock coach and general manager Paul Gagne as defenceman Andrew Castagna and forward Andrew Green) who performed a small act that meant so much to two Atom hockey teams.

Recently, there was an Atom hockey game that was re-scheduled, however, due to a mix up there were no referees scheduled to officiate.

The two teams were about to start warming up when it became apparent there were no referees at the McIntyre Arena.

Luckily, the Timmins Rock had just finished their afternoon practice.

So we approached the team to see if any players would help out.

Sure enough, not only did two Rock players immediately volunteer, but they just happened to be certified officials as well!

So, with half their hockey gear still on and borrowed whistles from the Rock coaches, the two Rock players came out and officiated a fantastic game.

When the Atom kids found out Timmins Rock players were going to be the referees, the first thing they asked was if they could get autographs after the game.

I want to give kudos to Paul Gagne and his staff for grooming these fine young men to be leaders and volunteers in their community.

They certainly gained some young fans, by allowing the game to be played.

Thanks again Rock.
