Cochrane’s Wickson; Timmins’ Brousseau; Blind River’s Cavaliere named Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Cochrane Crunch goaltender Zach Wickson; Timmins Rock forward Riley Brousseau and Blind River Beavers’ defenceman Dante Cavaliere have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Oct. 21.

ZACH WICKSON, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – Starting to heat up in Cochrane, Wickson was there once again when called upon as he backstopped the Crunch to a pair of victories.

The 19-year-old Calgary, Alta., native started with 34 stops in an overtime win over visiting Blind River Thursday.

He then made 27 saves in a convincing home ice decision vs. Powassan Friday

Wickson has won each of his past six starts for the Crunch while his 2.13 goals-against average and .932 save percentage place him second and third overall in the league respectively in each category.

RILEY BROUSSEAU, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – The 17-year-old Timmins product produced five points for the Rock in three games played, which included a pair of victories, and helped propel his side into second spot in the NOJHL’s East Division standings.

Brousseau began by scoring once and setting up the difference maker as Timmins topped Kirkland Lake Wednesday to snap a Gold Miners’ seven-game winning streak.

He then added an assist in a home defeat to Blind River before setting up another game-winner and then adding a shorthanded tally in a triumph vs. Powassan Sunday.

Currently riding a four-game point streak, Brousseau leads the Rock in game-winning goals with two and is second in rookie scoring on the club with 10 points, including five goals.

DANTE CAVALIERE, (D) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – Skating in a three-game northern road swing, Cavaliere collected points from the back end in each outing while helping Blind River secure five of a possible six points along the way.

The 17-year-old blueliner from Mississauga, Ont., began his run by notching his second goal of the season in the Beavers’ OT setback at Cochrane on Thursday.

Cavaliere then collected a pair of assists Friday as Blind River won at Hearst before wrapping up his week with another helper as his side put an end to the six-game winning streak of the Timmins Rock Saturday.

Heading into the Beavers home contest vs. Rayside-Balfour tonight, he is currently just one point shy of top spot in offensive production among NOJHL rookie defencemen with nine on two tallies and seven assists in 15 games.
