NOJHL announces its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Daniel Beaupre (Soo Thunderbirds), goaltender Patrick Boivin (Timmins Rock) and defenceman Brodie McConnell-Barker (Soo Thunderbirds) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending April 9.

DANIEL BEAUPRE, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Making his mark in a pair of road games last week, the 19-year-old North Vancouver, B.C., product provided two multi-point performances for the Thunderbirds, helping them take a 2-0 lead on Greater Sudbury in the NOJHL West final.

Some crafty passing helped Beaupre set-up three Sault Ste. Marie tallies against the Cubs and he also notched a key third-period marker in the second game of the best-of-seven affair.

Entering Game 3 tonight in the Soo, Beaupre has assists and points in three straight outings, with a goal and four helpers.

PATRICK BOIVIN, (G) TIMMINS ROCK – Getting the starting nod twice for Timmins last week, Boivin certainly did his part in backstopping the Rock to two victories versus Powassan, helping them move to within a win of advancing to play for the NOJHL championship.

The initial start for the 19-year-old netminder from Blind River saw him post his first league playoff shutout, in a Game 2 blanking of the Voodoos.

He then followed that up with a road win at Powassan to finish off his weekly run with a 1.00 goals-against average, along with a save percentage of .957.

BRODIE MCCONNELL-BARKER, (D) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – The rookie defenceman was a solid contributor at both ends of the ice for the Thunderbirds during the time frame.

Hailing from London, Ont., the 17-year-old blueliner registered his first three NOJHL playoff points, all assists, and was solid defensively, in his club’s two away triumphs last week.

Of McConnell-Barker’s trio of helpers, one was on a game-winner, while his other two came via the power play, against the NOJHL west division-winning Cubs.
