NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that the forward trio of Mason Svarich (Timmins Rock); Jackson Truchan (Soo Thunderbirds) and James Legler (Soo Thunderbirds), have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending October 15.

MASON SVARICH, (F) TIMMINS ROCK: An impressive return to the league saw the 20-year-old from Stony Plain, Alta., pile up five goals to help the Rock halt solid winning streaks of the Blind River Beavers and Soo Eagles.

Svarich started his run by notching a hat trick, including getting the game-winner, and adding an assist in a Friday evening triumph versus the Beavers, then collected two more markers in a narrow home ice triumph over the Eagles Sunday afternoon.

He began the 2023-24 campaign with the Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL) before being acquired by Timmins earlier this month, after notching 30 goals in the league for Hearst last season.

JACKSON TRUCHAN, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS: Truchan had both game-winning goals for the Thunderbirds in the time frame, to go with another marker and a trio of helpers, for a six-point week.

A product of Farmington Hills, Mich., the 20-year-old played a part on both Sault Ste. Marie tallies Saturday at Powassan, then was in-on four of the five the T-Birds collected in an away victory over French River Sunday.

In his first 60 NOJHL games, Truchan has registered 77 points, on 34 markers and 43 helpers. Of note, eight of his markers have been game-winners.

JAMES LEGLER, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS:
Assisting on six of the seven goals the Thunderbirds scored last week, including on both deciding tallies, Legler’s set-up skills helped the Soo skate to a pair of road victories.

The 18-year-old from Beaconsfield, Que., began by dishing out a pair of helpers in a Saturday night triumph in Powassan, then supplied four more assists in a win at French River Sunday.

His efforts helped the rookie forward improve to providing at over a point-per-game clip for the T-Birds with 16 in his first 14 NOJHL outings.
