NOJHL announces its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Kolton Bourret (Soo Thunderbirds); forward Oliver Smith (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and defenceman Felix Cadieux-Fredette (Timmins Rock) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending January 28.

KOLTON BOURRET, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS: It was an impressive week of goaltending for Kolton Bourret who registered two wins along with a shutout in two victories for the Thunderbirds this past week.

The 18-year-old Thunder Bay product turned away 56 of the 59 shots he faced this week in a 6-3 win over the Blind River Beavers on Friday night and a 7-0 shutout victory over the Espanola Paper Kings Sunday afternoon in Espanola.

Bourret, a North Bay Battalion 2021 draft pick, has recorded 15 wins and 6 losses record. He sports a stingy 2.33 goals against average, a .924 save percentage along with three shutouts so far this season.

OLIVER SMITH, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS: Leading the Cubs offensively, Smith scored three times and picked up three assists in triumphs over Powassan and division rivals Espanola in the time frame.

The talented 20-year-old Lively product had two goals and two assists in a convincing 7-1 home victory over the Soo Eagles last Thursday and then continued his impressive offensive output on the road in Powassan as he netted one goal and one assist in a 5-3 triumph over the Voodoos Saturday night.

With an assist on a second period Nolan Newton power play tally against the Voodoos, Smith registered his 200th career NOJHL point.

Through 43 games, Smith had 33 goals and 43 assists totaling 76 points as he currently sits fourth in NOJHL scoring.

Through his 162 games split between the Greater Sudbury Cubs and the Rayside-Balfour Canadians, Smith has registered 88 goals and 112 assists for 200 points in parts of four seasons in the NOJHL.

FELIX CADIEUX-FREDETTE, (D) TIMMINS ROCK: The veteran blueliner has logged heavy minutes for the Timmins Rock in three victories this past week.

The 20-year-old Ottawa product had 1 goal and 2 assists in the three Rock wins.

Cadieux-Fredette contributed one assist in the Rock 5-3 win over the visiting Kirkland Lake Gold Miners last Wednesday in Timmins. He recorded a second period power play marker in a 6-5 shootout victory over the Storm in Iroquois Falls on Friday night and then added another assist in a 5-2 Rock win over the Rapids in Noelville Saturday night.

Through 42 games, Cadieux-Fredette has 2 goals and 39 assists for 41 points in 42 games this season.

In his four seasons with the Rock, he has recorded 11 goals and 84 assists for 95 points in 157 games with the 2023 NOJHL defending champions.
